I find Frances's use of scale very interesting, taking a child-like doll scale work into a morbid subject mixes the creepy and cliche almost kitsch element. Highlighting the use of intent in the difference between these works and a dollshouse for example. She explored capsuled exampled of murders and morbid events, and displayed them in a still snapshot of a moment. The idea of showcasing something quite ugly into a piece of art really sinpired me, as I am interested in fungus I can take this intent and detail into my work. I wondered if it is the sheer detail or quality of the pieces that make them so wonderful to look at despite the disturbing scenes depicted. So as part of my peer research, I decided to ask an Artist friend Elizabeth Elsom's opinion, who said "I think that they are beautiful because its like a snapshot of time, turned into a kids dollhouse which is something you'd look at as a child in amazement ans wonder, so you kind of forget about the gore when you are so drawn in to all the small details like the tiny coffee containers and irons" I did some responses to her dioramas as drawings below, I really enjoy the visual of her work as it treads the unsettling line very well.
